The -fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last evening, Mr. I". Meadowcroft in the chair. The inspector's report dealt with a number of cases. Captain Henry mentioned the case of horses being in an open space off Manners Street (referred to in the papers). These were young horses brought in oil' grass, and not yet been handled or shod.. They were being well fed, and were less exposed to the wind that if they were running in the open. Not having had harness on them yet they would not bear a cover being put on them, and if obliged to go into a stable it was very few young horses could lie down in a stable for the first week they were pnt under cover. Two cases of working horses with soro shoulders and backs were heard at the Magistrate's Court at Levin, the driver being fined .£1 75., and owner <£2 17s. Subscriptions amounting to iIG 9s. til. were acknowledged, including il from Mr. M. Chapman. K. 0., and XI Is. from Mr. J. J'. Luke, M.P.
