That of the Army from 9521 officers and 202,510 men to 123,801 officers and 1,528,921 men. Within 28 days of the declaration of war American destroyers arrived at a British port (o assist in patrolling. The first American troops came under lire. 187 days after war was declared, and permanently took over a, sector of tho firing-line in January. Twenty-throe million hand grenades have been purchased, 23,000,000 heavy shells, 210,000 machine-guns, and 2,-181,000 rilles. The air personnel has increased from 55 officers and .1120 men to 100 times that number. Six new battleships of 41,500 tons—the largest in the world—have been designed. Over 20 firms are making aeroplanes and 400 are producing spare parts. Machine-guns are being produced at a rate of. OS Ml -i yonv, and Ittin. guns at a rale of 15,000 a year. Anion?
