It iB said Mr. W. It. Kemball's team lor Australia will not leave New Zealand until January. The team will probably comprise Hyinestra, Nanna, and a pair of two-year-olds.

The well-known cross-country rider 3. Henderson was one of the lucky passongcrs who missed the Wiinmera ou her illfated trip, lie was proceeding to Australia to ride Glucpot and John Bunny, and whon ho missed the Wimmera Henderson came on to this city to catch the 6y<lncy boat, but before that boat sailed he received word that Gluepot had met with injuries that resulted in tho destruction of Mr. W. 11. Windsor's steeplechaser. Henderson will be riding at Trentham next week.

The Kiccarton jockey F. .Ellis is to ride Vascular in his engagements at Trentham. Trainer P. nogan will probably only bring two horses to Trentham; Theso will be tho 'chaser Zarkoma, and tho English-bred colt Fleetham, who is eligible for the Trial Plato.

It is said. Stan. Hcid will ride Collector in the Wellington Stceplechaso and Gladful in the Winter Hurdles. Tho lastnamed waß runner-up to Leanta in that race a year ago.

After a few weeks in khaki the wellknown jockey 0. Emerson was discharged from camp. He was riding work at Riccarton on Wednesday morning.

The Auckland trainer J. Lnmbesß has been an inmato of the Napier Hospital- for the past week. His horses, Kauri King and Ibex, will be brought to Trentham under the charge of J. M'Farlane.

Visiting horses arc now arriving in large numbers at Trentham in anticipation of the opening'day of the Wellington Kncing Club's Winter Meeting. The acceptances, which are published on thiß pace, are remarkably good, and with such a. high-clasn field in tho Steeplechase it is safe to predict that the race will be an exciting one. At a committee meeting of the Canterbury Jockev Club, held on Tuesday, tho report submitted by the Programme Committoc for the Grand National Meeting was approved. It provides for a similar bill of faro to that of last year, with the exception of tho Beaufort Steeplechase, tho distance of which has been increased from two miles and a half to three miles.

Though New Zealand has not a single representative left in the big jumping events at the V.R-.C. Meeting, two Austra-lian-bred horses in Thrace and Hoplinld are likely to content the big hurdle ovent at Kiccarton next month.

In consequence of anticipated absence from Christ'iluirnh. Mr. W. P. Iluckley has been compelled to resign h\n position as chairman of the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club. Mr. A. Jioyle has been appointed in hiß stead.

The imported English-bred stallion Merry Moments, by Count Schomcrg from Merry Gal. died recently as the result uf injuries sustained through getting mixed up in a wire fence. He wa.s owned by Mr. H. Hasscl. whose loss will be a severeono.

T. H. Gillett, the well-known Riccarton trainer, is confined to his bed, Buffering from an inward complaint.

The majority of the Eiccarton trainers will leave on Monday next for Wellington with their charges, providing they can get. into communication with tho ownem of their horses. This is a. rather difficult matter, owing to the intcrriiDted telegraph an<l postal service. The absence of Golden Glade from tho Wellington acceptances was brought about by the hurdle gelding breaking down while training this week, The Olaki-traincd Arlington reached Trontham yesterday, as did the southern horses Crib, Golden Prince, and Master Hamilton. Bon Rove. Tressida. fit. Eliun. Advancer, fityrax, and Merry Lad were railed from Hastings yesterday, and will reach Trontham this forenoon.

The Aivapuni trainer T. George wa» up before the Medical Board this week and was passed iit for active service. Tho well-known trainer h. Wilson is now In tho 01 Oainn at Featherston. Locally, Sir Fisher is a prime fancy for the Winter Hurdles at Trontham. hut there is no marked preference for any of tho runners in the Steeplechase, the issue of which is regarded ub very open. The iiDPoal of W. S. Young against tlio decision of the Manawatn Racing Olub in disqualifying him for two years over tho running of Ibex at the April meeting, was before the Racing Conference Judges this week, and the decision was reserved. Tho acceptances for Wednesday's racing at Trcnthara reveal that a number of owners have allowed their horses to drop out of their engagements. In some cases this has had tho effect of reducing the fields to less unwieldy numbers, but the most plcasiug feature of all is that the splendid quality of the Steeplechase field has been left 'almost untouched. The rnco should bo worth going a long way to see. Tho non-acceptance of Adjutant, Brambletyc, Bon Francisco, and other South Island horses was not, altogether unexpected, as tho tracks in tho Bouth have been almost ton bad late!: 7 tn complete the nrcparaI tions of the horses.
