She contained the names of forty-seven, thousand men and women in Britain, occupying i social, politioal, and financial positions, j ,vith a record of their alleged moral, sexual, or other weaknesses; likely to '} render them easy victims in intrigues designed to assist Germany. The names of Mr. Justice Darling, Lord Hal- ; dane, and Mr.' and Mrs. Asquith appeared in tho book. Spencer, the writer of an article relating to the forty-seven 1 thousand names, gave evidence that he Was an aide-de-camp to Prince William i of TVied when the latter was King of Albania. l'rinco William of Wied snowr ed him tho book. He could not get tho Foreign Office to ventilate the fact ; that England was in Germany's hands, ' so ho went to Mr. Billing.
