They apparently returned- upstairs to secure I their money. After tho firo tho sum r of J!2COO, including .£SOO in gold and r ,£719 in silver, was found hidden in . various parts of tho building. Tho do- ,■ bris is still yielding much silver coma"o, which rained on tno firemen as r. they worked. At the outbreak of .the '■. war Himmclferb withdrew his savings f from the bank, fearing for their safety, „ and hoarded them under the floorboards, insido tho mattresses, and in other cunj' ous places.!
