WANDERING STOCK

Sir,—On reading your report of civil cases held in our local court, I am surprised at the minimum line imposed 011 owners of wandering eattle. The fact that those guilty are only mulcted in a ss. fine is really encouraging the nuisance,' as it is considered cheap grazing' by owners. As the authorities aro not over energetic in rounding "scavengers" up I would suggest the city solicitor in future make application for a penalty fitting the offence.—l am, etc., WAITOA EOAD. Wellington, June 22.
