FATAL BLUNDER IN THE AIR. On. Juno 5 0110 of the British fighting aeroplanes leading a patrol met' a Halbei'stadt, which fired a green light, but did not show a disposition to escape. Suspecting a trap, the British machine hovered, and six Albatrosses entered the scene. The rest of the British patrol came up to give battle, when six more Albntrosses appeared, and .dived upon the first half-dozen, which they mistook for enemies. A regular melee ensued, '■Ho which our patrol plunged, causing the Halberstadt and two Albatrosses to crash to earth, sending down several others out of control.
On the night of May 31 a patrol lieutenant saw a, big German bombing machine caught by our searchlight. He pursued it, and getting within 25 yards emptied the drum of his Lewis gun and sent down the machine in flames. • This is the jirst occasion oil which an enemy machine has been brought down at night on this front by aerial attack.
