* POPULATION STATISTICS. Capetown, Juno 23. Preliminary totals cf the census show tho European population in the South African l)nion, exclusive of those on active service, as 1,418,000, of which number 680,000 are males. Tho increase is 11.11 pen cent, (almost exactly oneninth) over the 1911 census. The largest proportional increaso is in Natal G5 'per cent.), and the smallest in tho Orange I'ree State (3.7). _ All tho larger towns show increases.—Aus.-N.Z. > Cable Assn.
