O'iCeefe replied that ho was Trailing for a friend. Complainant then searched the pockets of his coat, which was ltangiig lip with the others, and found that '.he goods mentioned in the charge had been stolen. He then searched O Keefe, and fowuMho missing goods in his possession. O'Keefe, whose record was a bad one, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. James Eegister, who pleaded guilty to the theft of two pairs ot' socks, valued at 35., the property of Denis John Mahnr, was sentenced to three months' imprison- | ment. The offence was committed ot\ Thursday afternoon. Tho man, who under the ir.flueru-t! of liquor, was seen taking the goods from complainant's shop door, aiid wm promptly arrested. A further remand to Wednesday was granted in the ca-;e of Edith Annio D. Flaherty, who was charged with forging a I'ost'Offce Savings Bank withdrawal slip for .£3(l and causing Walter Smart: to act upon it as if it were genuine; also with obtaining from Walter Smart .£•29 by'means of a false pretence, by re. presenting that sas was a -Mrs. Dewes, and that she- was the owner of a Post Office Savings BarV book with an account at Napier. Bail was renewed. Cecilia Parkinson and Myra Donaldson, charged wi'.lt the theft'of a clock, valued at 7s. 9d„ tit! property of John Sturrock Kobbie, vera remanded for a week. For insolv.'it-tj, oin: first offender was lined lfts., in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment; another was similarly fined, and in addition was ordered to pay SSs. (id. medical expenses; two others were fined 20s. eac;:, in the alternative forty-eight hours' imprisonment, and a soldier was convicted and ordered to be handed over to the military authorities. For obstructing the military police on the Kind's Wharf a driver named Harry 'J'oon was filial '.'os. with court costs. The Inspector of Factories proceeded against D.'Cingg fcr failing; to close his shop at tho prescriiied closing hour. The defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined ■ilj with costs. For hoarding a. tiumcar while in motion FredciY.)},- was fined 10s., with costs totalling 275. 6d. 13. Lewis was fined as., with costs 17s. fid., for allowing 'ms motor-car to stand in a blind sheet, tin car being without lights. For not having a tail-fight on his motor-car I'eu-y V.
