A well-attended meeting of the Executive Committee of the fted JerAppeal was held in the Chamber • of Commerce last night, when matters I connected with the appeal generally were ; discussed. Mr. L. 0. IT. Tripp, who occupied the chair, mentioned that he ; ha<l to apologise for the unavoidable ■ . absence of Adjutant Hoskings, who, he j was sorry t6 say,'was seriously ill. He , sincerely thanked all* those who had so i ably assisted in the appeal, especially : the members of the Procession Oommit- | tee, who had worked so hard for the success of the King's Birthday prooesI sioD. Commissioner Hodder, who' 1 attend- ; ed the meeting on behalf of the Salva- ! tion Army, 6aid he was there for the express purpose of thanking all mem- : bers of the various committees for their ; untiring efforts throughout the appeal. "Never," said the Commissioner, "in the history of the Salvation Army, have i I met with such hearty co-operation." The returns to date had exceeded their ■ : expectations, and when all returns were ito hand they expccteii to realise over •, <£50,000 from , the Wellington military ] area. He stated that the Peatherston 1 Hostel, which had been erected at a cost of over alio,ooo, was now found to be I too small, and they were making ar-' rangements to build an additional 40 i looms, at a further cost of ,£3OOO. Sir Jaines Allen, who had recently visited ; . the Kotorua Hostel, had expressed him- ! self as bein? delighted with what the Salvation Army were doing for the soldiers. Touching 011 the matter of the t new Soldiers' Hostel which was being ' ' erected at the corner of Vivian Street, j he said that on completion it would be • opened for our boys. He would, how- : ever, like all those present, also the pub- ! lie generally, to understand that none of the appeal money, would be spent on any of this class of building either ■ erected or to bo erected in New Zea- ; land, and he assured, them that it was for the express purpose of assisting our i soldiers in every possible way and that the most would be got out. of every ( penny received.
