The returns to date had exceeded their ■ : expectations, and when all returns were ito hand they expccteii to realise over •, <£50,000 from , the Wellington military ] area. He stated that the Peatherston 1 Hostel, which had been erected at a cost of over alio,ooo, was now found to be I too small, and they were making ar-' rangements to build an additional 40 i looms, at a further cost of ,£3OOO. Sir Jaines Allen, who had recently visited ; . the Kotorua Hostel, had expressed him- ! self as bein? delighted with what the Salvation Army were doing for the soldiers. Touching 011 the matter of the t new Soldiers' Hostel which was being ' ' erected at the corner of Vivian Street, j he said that on completion it would be • opened for our boys. He would, how- : ever, like all those present, also the pub- ! lie generally, to understand that none of the appeal money, would be spent on any of this class of building either ■ erected or to bo erected in New Zea- ; land, and he assured, them that it was for the express purpose of assisting our i soldiers in every possible way and that the most would be got out. of every ( penny received.
