: ANNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph—Press A6Booiation. Chrlstchurcli, June 5. The annual meeting.of the South Island 'Dairy Association commenced today. The election of four directors resulted in the return of Messrs. T. Parker (Stirling), U. Lord (Canterbury Central), if. ft. Thacker (Okains), J. S. GricTo (Wai- , aniwa). It was decided, that the expenses of delegates and the committee in connection with the sale of the outputs of butter and cJieese be paid by the South Island Dairy Association, tho executive to be authorised to pay them or to make a levy, as decided by the directors. It was also decided that the association pay the exponses of the South Island representatives who recently visited Australia in connection with the sales of butter. The following resolution was carried: ',"Hhat this conference urge on the l Government tho necessity for conserving irhat little timber still remains for New Zealand requirements, and that the export of timber of all sorts be prohibited and afforestation proceeded with seriously." .'After a lengthy discussion, in tlie course of which comment was made on t!he action of the Otago Military Service Board in dismissing all appeals for butter and cHeese factory managers, it."was resolved: "Tfliat this meptinsr of dairywen proteet. against the continued consoription of competent dairy factory ..managers and competent first assistants, in opposition to tho Efficiency Board's finding that dairying is essential, and recommends that immediate stops be taken io ensure that enough men are left to carry on'tno industry; that the meeting thoroughly approves of Hip letter forwarded to the Minister of Defence-, and' requests Jiis favourable and/prompt-at-tention to the i'snme, and -the rehearing of recent cases ..where appeals were dismissed be authorised." ■' '■.' The conference unanimously passer! a. rote of appreciation of the conduct'of. tho Bluff Harbour Board :in dcnling/with tho cool storage question at Bluff. -After a lengthy discussion, a,remit, asking the association to tako into! consideration the 'possibility of purchasing the Bluff cool stores, was withdrawn.
