SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE
CABINET CONSIDERS DEMANDS TO-DAY. Cabinet will consider 'again to-day the requests made to members of the Government by the delegates to the conference of the Second Division Leagues which sat in Wellington last week. It is probable that a decision on some of tho points raised will be announced as tho result of this meeting of Cabinet. It is practically a foregone conclusion that tho Government will say "No lr to the demand for an extra 3s. per day nepitration allowance for the wife of the Second Division soldier. The other request, which in effect will replace the demand for increased separation allowances, was that better provision should be made for tho repatriation of men returning from the war, On this matter the league submitted a set of proposals. It will be impossible for the Government to give final answer to these demands to-dav, allhousfli some remark on thorn mny l>B made by Cabinet. It will not be possible • to adopt or reject the scheme outlined by a comwitloe of the loiguo without iriouiry, nnd the inquiries that will have to bo made may oceuiiy some little Ihnn. It fiecms to .be generally conceded by members o f the Government that "ia league, is on sounder ground in this demand foi provision for the men on their return tlinn that on which they stood in the request for sin additional allowance- to k> luishnnded ngai'ist-the return of the enMier from the wnr. ■Rrnalrhtion is the one matter on which the TJe'Mrned Soldiers' Association has been insislent on the Government becoming moro active, nnd the question will have increased supixirt now from the Second Division League's representations.
