An Eduoational Meeting. Tho New Zealand Utility Poultry Club at Christehm-ch held an educational meeting oil Tuesday, Mr. 0. Atkinson presiding over a large attendance of members, liefovo commencing the business of the evening a hearty welcome home was extended to Sir. Voluey Atkinson by the cx-yresi-dent, Mr. 8. Dick. Mr. V. Atkinson has just returned wounded from the from, and within a few days of his return to Chrjstcbunsu. was attending a meeting of the club with which ho lias been ussociated for some'time. Hearty cheers weregiven for Mr. Atkinson, unci lie made a suitable.response to tlic welcome extended to him.

The business of the evciiiug t-us an exhibition of washing a bird for show purposes, given by Mr. L. .'Cocker. For the purpose of tho demonstration a White I'ock'cockerel was supplied ly Mr. Tritt. Mr. Cocker first proceeded to treat the comb with a mixture of olive oil and vinegar. The fim proceeding, said Jlr. Cookev, towards''preparing the bird for tho show was to thoroughly wash the shanks, and it was advisable tr.at this be done a day or two beforo tho bird was washed for tho show. A few drop.3 of kerosene- in the water wae helpful in bringing away the dirt under_the scales. In demonstrating the washing of tho bird, Mr. Cocker first, used ' a bath of water heated t,o a temperature of about 140 ilegrosef, 'and stated that it was desirable to get, tho feathers thoroughly wet before using soap or lather. Having soaked the bird Mr. Cocker then proceeded w a) ply ii- liberal quantity of atvp and htier, nibbing well in iindor tha I)iea-<1 and wings, and not neglecting the nack. The bird was nojt »ut into a, bath of cieir water toy ,tho purpose of removing tho soap from the plumage. Another bath of 9. 00l ?' r water was then used, and Qnally (ho finish was applied in a bath of tepid water, into whioli a small quantity of blue had been dissolved. The Wrd wa.s then taken out of flic bath, and gently wiped with dry towels, particular care being taken not to rub tho plumage tho wrong way. The bird ias then pnt a little distance from the lire in order to dry. Iliroughout. tho proceedings the bird Mad remained quiet, possibly due (o the gentle handling ho received at tho hands ot Air. Cocker, Having completed the demonstration, Mr. Cooker then road n. paper on the preparation of birdß for the show,. Questions were then answered, and tho munber of thoso fired at Mr. CocW proved tho interest, of members in the demonstration. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Cocker was carried with acclamation.. Thanks wero also extended to Mr Tritt for valuable assistance rendered towards making the demonstration a success ? At tho invitation of the chairman, Mr. E. W.
