EDUCATION BOARD
♦ Tho Wellington District Education Board met yesterday. There were present tho chairman (the lion. .1. (1. , W. Aitkim), and Messrs. A. W. Hogg, T. I'orsyth, J. Kebbell, It. M'Callum, M.P., G. London, It, A. Wright, ill'.. W. Allan, B. H. Penny, T. Moss, and W. H. Field, M.P. On tho motion of Mr. Hogg it was resolved: "That tho attention of the Minister be called to tho prejudicial effect that the amended regulations relating to tthe- reduction of the staffs of schools is having on some of our larger schools, and that ho bo nsked to havo tho regulations amended or withdrawn.' Mr. London, who supported tho motion, contended that a toucher could not do efficient work when he or she had to take charge of sixty or more children. Tho statement of nccnmits presented to tho meeting sihowed that the receipts sinco last meeting amounted to ,£1.5,487, and payments had been made amounting to .CNU9I, including .K9905 for teachers' salaries. Payments for tho current month amounted to JJ14.556. Cash in bank on current account on April 30 was .£3340, Hnd on May 11 -£4774. The amount on deposit was Government grants now due amounted to J:7oßt. The chairman reported that the Government had authorised a grant of -£464 for an addition to the Muntai School.
