A formal notice in tho ofiicial British Gazette records another step in tho dieapponrnnco of Germany's colonial Empire. It is issued by "General Headquarters, East African Expeditionary Force,'in tho territory known as 'German East Africa,'" and announces that ae from January 1, 1918, all towns in that territory on tho Central Railway from Dar-es-Saham to Tabom are open to trade. Railway transport will bo available "as and when military requirements permit." ... . The announcement means a. rich territory formerly regarded aa one of the jewels of the German colonial Lmpiro and reserved jealously for Gorman development is thrown open to the traders of tho world undor Bntieli rule. But Germany can have no share. She must watch impotently while her onemies and rivals establish thomeelves in tho colony that onco was here.
