BRITISH MADE
A. NOTE FOR BUYERS.
British manufacturers enjoy the greater Bhare of the trade in New Zealand, yet it is a fact that foreign-made goods are usually employed for tho purpose of window and shopi displays. The reason is that the foreign goods, -while generally inferior in quality, present a more attractive appearance than do the British goods, whether shown loose or in package. "This constitutes a valuable form of advertisement for foreign-made goods, eaye His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for New Zealand in a note on the subject '"and results in sabs to which in many cases their real merit does not entitle them when compared with. United Kingdom goods of a liko kind and of equal price. Another feature of certain, foreign hardware goods marketed in Aew Zealand is the fact.that they are frequently put up in such a way that they pack more leatly on shelves than do British goods, and consequently they are more, readily handled by , salesmen. The Trade Commissioner mentions tnat many buyers are not in a position to discriminate as to quality, and are frequently guided solely by appearance m ?heir choice of goods. 'There are wise buyers who insist upon the British goods all tho time. '
