General Maurice, lately Director of Military Operations and Intelligence at the War Office, has writton a letter to the Press in which he gives the Prime' Minister and Mr. Bonai- Law tho lie direct, in connection with certain "misleading statements" in Parliament. General Maurice is the "high military • authority" whoso weekly review of the war operations has provided interesting sidolights on the general situation. In his letter lie takes exception to certain statements made by tho political leaders legarding tho extension of the British line somo weeks before tbo German offensive, and also to tho Ministerial references to tho number of white divisions in Egypt. India, and Mesopotamia. Tho letter lias caused tremendous excitement in England, for tho writer has committed a deliberate breach of discipline for which he is to bo called to account. Also a Committee of Inquiry is to investigate tho charges and report on tho result in due course. General Maurice, it is pointed out, left tho War Office about a fortnight ago under ciroumstnuces which have boon veiled in mystery,
