PROPERTY AT WELLINGTON TERRACE PUKCHABED. Ovor a ypjir ago a big art union was promoted in Wellington for tho purposo of erecting a hostel for.crippled soldiers in this oily, and at one timo a statement appeared "that n building on Lambtou Quay hud been plm-nl under olYer at a α-rtain figure for tho purpose mentioned. It is now announced Unit a hostel for 6oldiers and sailors is lo bo provided, and to that end a property belonging to (ho Burns Estate, situated on Wellington Terrace, has beon purchased for tho emu of iiSOOO. which will leave a total of JilSSfl with which lo carry on. The land (which includes a fine residence, gardens, and outbuildings) is one of tho original town acres, and is a most dosirablo property. Tho grounds are well planted with shrubs and Ireos, and there- is nmple room for tho inmates of the hostel to move about in pleasant surroundings without leaving the boundaries of tho properly. Tlie residence will bo used as a hoslel instead of Lnngham House (at Newtown), and later on it is hoped that a sufficient sum of money will bo raised to erect a new and up-to-date hostel, which, after Ihe war. is intended for tho use of incapacitated soldiers and sailors.
The Y.M.C.A. ha.s decided to assist the Hostel Board, too, in raising money for tho establishment of workshops in the grounds of the hostel. Mrs. Huili'ii snys {-lint the mutter of a site for the new hostel has been vory carefully gone into, and tho ono selected is certainly the best for tho purposes intended.
