RAETIHI RELIEF
A NEW CONTROLLING BODY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Raetihi, May 4. At tlio last meeting of Hie Ractihi Fin Relief Committee, all the moneys, assets, and liabilities of the committee were transferred to the Waimarino Fire Relief Association, Incorporated. A resolution was passed expressing appreciation of tho valuable services rendered by Mr. B. J. Barry, and also of the marked ability and courtesy displayed by him in oarrying out the duties of chairman of tho committee. The new association was inaugurated on the recommendation of Mr. W. Ferguson, chairman of tho National Lfficiency Board, in order that there might be a legally constituted corporate body to deal with the large eums which the Government was granting in subsidy and on loan. At tho first meeting of the incorporated association. Mr. T. A. Harris. solicitor, of Ractihi, was elected chairman. Mr. Barry having declined nomination on account of distance ami the pressure of business. Up to date the sum of £9000 has been received la ca3h donation from the public Of this sum. JI3OOO has been expended on tents, beds, bedding, etc., and all requiring relief in tho shape of shelter and drilling haw had their want, supplied. The machinery for tho distribution of funds is now completed. Careful investigation is being mado into all claims, and the distribution of cash grand* in all deserving cases will be proceeded with immediately. It h anticipated that between 300 and 350 claims will bo dealt with.
