The annual meeting of >St. Matthias' Church, Makura. was held yesterday, the vicar being in the chair. Mr. S. Bowler gave a very satisfactory, report on the financial position. Tho officers appointed for the coming year were:—Jlr. S. Bowler, vicar's warden: Mr. W. W ulpeople's, warden; mid Mr. G. Ilislop, secretory. A discussion look place with regard (o the new church. The vicar placed boforo the parishioners a proposal for building the church in rubble stone, the district being fillet' with a hard stone most suitable for that purpose. He said that the architect had received the suggestion with keen approval, and a buildor who had had practical experience in building such churches in England had received the idea most favourably. Mr. Wallace, secretary of the new church funds, showed that a considerable sum had been collected, and with a strong effort tho desired amount could be reached. It was resolved that the Church officials meet the vicar and builder, to inspect the stone and consider the plans, and get an estimate of the cost. If this meets the approval of tho architect, the whole matter be placed before tho diocesan trustees, and tho foundation-stone laid during the coming year.
