SIR FRANCIS BELL HONOURED

Sir Francis lieil, K.C., was made the recipient of_ a presentation yesterday on tliu occasion of his rctirin.ent from the presidency of the New Zealand Law Society, by 'he members thereof. Society. ... , i In making the presentation, Sir John Findlav, K.(.'., as president of the Wellington District Law Society, rehrred to the 21 vears of otiice of Sir Francis Bell, seventeen vears of which I ad been tilled as prcsidnit of the parent society. It was cmnhasised by Sir John that in the history-of this country the name' of Be 1 was written large, not only villi regard to the activities if the Law Soeietv, but in the matter of public and national service. In this connection he referred to the late Sir Francis Bell, ot beloved memory, and, passing on, he touched upon the numerous good offices filled bv the guest of the day. With regard to Sir Francis Bell's elevation to the position of Attorney-General, Sir John Findlay remarked that tiro position would not so much honour him as he would honour the position. (Applause.) The acknowledged- leader of the Bar in New Zealand, Sir Francis Bell, had for many years past.set a high standard for the younger numbers of the profession. From- one end of the Domiii■on to the other he had ieceived /expressions couched in phrases conveying the \-tmost in honour and appreciation at the elevation of Sir Francis Bell to Jio office of Attorney-General. .
