SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Y.W.C.A. Notes.' To-morrow afternoon at the Young Women's Christian Association, Mr. 11. TWnshend will give an adrites. An intercessory service was hold on Annuo Day at tlij Y.W.C.A., in which Mrs. Good. Miss Burtinshuw, Miss Kirch, and others look part. Prayer was made that tho women and girls of the nation might bo bound together in one big sisterhood in tho service of God and country during this time of danger and trial, through tho great war, pud gills worn exhorted to keep pure, to help their neighbours, and to realise their debt to the men who aro keeping tho lines.and guarding tho seas. The next two Thursdays' addresses will be given by Miss Florence Birch on "Tho Girl's Individual Responsioililv and Equipment for Christian Service. Soldiers will bo welcome to-night lo join the members of tho Y.W.C.A. in n bright evening of amusement. Miss Fickthall will provide tho musical part of tho programme. Parcels of clothing, useful second-hand furniture, or other things will be received at tho Y.W.C.A., Herbert Stieet, through the week until next Friday, for a jumble sale, wjiich will be held next Saturday atfernoon at St. Thomas's Schoolroom, Newtown. The proceeds of the sale will bo used for patriotic purposes and for the Ractihi sufferers. In this way the clothes that were sent f-om (he Women's National Reserve to tho Y.W.C.A. after sufficient clothes had been provided for Raetihi, will he disposed of together with another accumulation. Girls wishing to join the Y.AV.C.A. lit erary circles will be welcome on Mondny night, when plans will be made for thb programme of rending for the winter session. Letters bearing on the war will bo considered as part of the proposed scheme. Miss England will give the opening address, and circle leaders will plan with their groups for Tegular fortnightly literarj study circles. It is pointed out that there is imperative necessity for sending supplies of honey to tho hospitals for New Zealand soldiers, as it is most valuable, not only <ts a food, but for medicinal purposes As there is no lack of food in New Zealand, and seeing that supplies of honey for wounded New Zealand soldiers should bo sent as quickly as possible, it is liODed that there will be a liberal response to the executive's appeol Sirs. Wellington Red Cross Shop. The Koibiirn Branch of tho Women's National Reserve was in charge of the Wellington Red Cross Shop yesterday, and did an excellent .day's v-urk, with tli« result that about .CTO was taken. Good supplies of homc-mudo cakes, sweets, produce of all kinds (in which was included meat) had lioen sent in. Tho stall lor needlework and fan?y goods also attracted many purchasers. Mrs. J. llauan (president of tho Kolburn Branoh of the W.N.R.) was tho organiser, and Mrs. J. C. Anderson tho secretary. In clinrge of tho stalls wero tho following:—Produce, Mrs. ,T. Hanan and Mrs. Anderson; cakes, Mrs. W. I). S. Mac Donald, Mrs. .Hired Atkinson, Mrs. M'Clure, and Miss M'Ara; fancy stall, Mies Madeson. The flowers were as usual in |ho charge of Miss Cooper and Miss Moss. To Mr 6. W. D. Hunt, who placed her motor-oar at their disposal, Mrs. Hanan and her helpers were extremely grateful, and also to the many kind friends who assisted with the day both by fervicc and in regard to purchases. Tho matron, wiii be invested with the full power and authority of her position in -.lie administration ot the home, and any assistance she may require in the matter of nursing will, it- is hoped, be rendered by tho St. John Ambulance Association Nursing Divisions. The executive has decided thai all the beds can bo endowed at a cost ot dldO or over for each bed, and already several promises of endowment have been received. It is hoped that, before very long, preferably before the hospital is officially opened, every bed will bear tiie name of sumo Utago resident. The home will ,be called tho Red Cross Military Convalescent Home, and within its four walls everytnuig possible will be done to ensure the comfort and well-being of the inmates. -It is proposed to start with a total of 25 beds, and to enlarge the accommodation by additions to the building as tho necessity arises. Thus, if the hospital meets with public approval— and there seems to be little reason for doubt on that score—the executive can go on making constant additions in accordance with a plan that is already befog devised, licing a convalescent institution, tho iiome io intended solely for wouudod and maimed 6oidicrs who havo been permanently discharged from the hospital, and the task facing its personnel will he lo nurse theso men back, as far as possible, to their original slate cf health and strength. A valuable part in bringing this about will be played by tho iiowling green and croquet lawns which it is proposed to lay down in the grounds.

Tho Wanganui "Chronicle" states that (ho many friends of tho lato Lieutenant D. L. Robertson, of the Technical Colloge, and Mm. Robertson, will groatly regret to know that Mrs. Robertson passed away at Dimodin on Wednesday evening. Lieutenant Robertson was killed in action on March 27, and this great blow coming upon Mrs. Robortson rhon she was dangerously ill was too much for her. Tho late Sirs. Robortson was formerly a teacher in the service of the Otag'o Education Board, aud whon Lieutenant Robertson went into tamp, Sirs. Robertson, despite delicate .health, bravely took up teaching at the Technical College, and for some lime at Kai Iwi. One little boy, three years of age, is.loft to mourn the loss of both father aud mother.
