ST. MARY'S GUILD ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of St. Mary's Guild was held in the Diocesan Hall, Alulgravo Street, yesterday afternoon. His .Lordship the Bishop of Wellington presided. Miss Coates (president) presented (ho annual report, which slated that "there are 34 girls in the main homo and extension. In tho Children's Home thcro arc 2i. Several of the older girls have been placed in situations, where they aro giving satisfaction, and a few have returned to their friends, their placc3 in. tho home being filled immediately. Several girls have been sent to the Hospital during (he year and received every attention, for which the guild is ■most grateful to Dr. Barclay and tho nurses. The domestic duties continue to l>e performed quite satisfactorily, also tho laundry work, gardening, and needle-work, under tho able supervision of the matron, whoso .untiring devotion to and enre of tho girls must bo recorded. Tho annual sale of work dono by the girls, usually held at the home, did not tako place last year, nor that of Miss Baber's. girls or Marjorio Hayes and her young friends, as it was docided lo morse all efforts into a combined sale of work and entertainment. This was held in August, the object being tho extinction of the debt on the new Children's Home. This effort produced the sum of JUtS. In addition to t'his tho guild havo to thank Mrs. Arthur Myers and Mrs. Phil Nathan for a very successful separate entertainment which realised -K6 155.; nlso Mrs. S. Kirkcaldio for an entertainment at Karon, which with a donation of „E25 4s. from Mr. and Mrs. S. Kirkcldie added Bs. to the total. . Mrs. Lysaght, of Mokoia, Hnwera, collected the sum of .£27 135., which was a great help in furnishing the new home. The Old Girls oil Miss Baber's School also contributed liberally towards this object, and the present girls Dtintcd the tickets for the sale of work. Mrs. P. Ward supplied surprise bugs and the Girls' Friendly Societysent contributions from Brooklyn, Lower Hutt, and Wellington. Mrs. M'William and Miss Andeison, of Mars Hill, Wanganui, Mr. C. H. Edwards (Napier), and Miss Thomas sent donations or gifts. The kindness and sympathy received on all sides has helped tho guild more in their work this year than it is possible to express, and the successful result of this sale enabled the guild to pay off the final debt on tho new property. Miss Eichardsonhas resigned the secretaryship and tho guild desire to express their appreciation ojj her services during the past year. Miss E. Holmes has been appointed to fill theN vacancy. Tho guild acknowledges tho annual grant of i'2oo from the Government, XIOOO from the Macarthy Trust, and JC2S from the Diocesan Social Service Fund. Mr. .1. W. Henderson presented a piano to the new Children's Home, and Mr. Bailey a set of gales to tho' Main Home. The committee expresses their indebtedness (o Dr. Wallace Mackenzie for many operations on the girls' throats and. noses, fo Dr. Platts-Mills and Dr. I'atlie for medical attendance, to Mr. Hoby and Mr. Levien for attention to their teeth, and to Mr. Russell Dymock for auditing the accounts. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. have kindly continued the regular supplies of sugar."
