HUTT VALLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The autumn (lower show of the above society will be opened to-morrow in tho Drill Hall, Lower j-lutt, (he official opening being by the Hon. T. M. Wilfurd at 3 p.m. This year's show i.romises to equal,-if not eclipse, any yet ncld in the district. Local enthusiasts are busy with their chrysanthemums and dahlias, etc., and some competitors from outside the district ai\. bidding' for honours. The season has not been all that could bo desired by growers, but from all accounts tho competition will be keen, especially so far as the Vallanco Trophy is concerned. Last ye.v's winner of the Sladden Trophy and championship bloom (Mr. I l '. Westbiiry) will Ik; a. competitor for the Cooper Trophy. In Cue amateur section the same keenness is manifesting itself as in the open class. Dahlias will be well represented, both in tho cactus and collarette sections, and there will be an-excellent display of pot plants and ferns. Quite a feature, of this i? ,- ow will bo tho home industries section This is arousing a good deal of interest, and considerable space is already bespoken. There is every indication of there being a good display of fruit and vegetables. 'Yfternoon tea will be in the capable iiands of Miss Ilayward and assistants. The proceeds of the show )vill bo 111 aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Buses and trains lo and from Wellington will run at convenient intervals.
