The lull on the great battlefront in the West continues—comparatively speaking—and public attention is at present absorbed in the possibilities surrounding ihe onemy's next move. .Meanwhile a spirit of cheerful confidence pervades the fighting lines of tho British. The German raid on tho American front, according to the enemy's report, was a fairly serious affair, but the French official report states definitely that tho situation has been re-established. According to the Turks, tho British forces ou the Jordan front of the Palestine theatre attempted a thrust on the east side of the river, but were repulsed. The shadow over Ireland is darkening !.s the days pass. Tho anti-conscription movement'io gaining ground in the south and west. Extraordinary scenes were witnessed at the administering of the pledge against conscription.
