A- well-attended' meeting -was held. at' tho Y.M.C.A. Rooms, all tho swimming and life-saving olubs being represented, to consider ways, and means of conducting the junior races.at tho tepid bathe. commencing the business of tho evening Mr. G. S.'.Hill, chairman, presented, on behalf'of tho "Wellington Club; a gold jnedal and photo of tho winningteam of i tho shimmer's memorial lifesaving competition to Mr. J. D. Foster, who is leaving for England. Mr. Foster, who is a returned soldier, is a long-dis-tance and trick and fancy swimmer, and during his stay here he lias taken a very live interest in local swimming. In January last lie attempted to swim across the harbour, but abandoned the attempt after going about three miles owing to the low temperature of the water. Mr. Farnall, addressing tho meeting, stated that for tho past tw.o seasons two or throo enthusiasts had procured ■ the trophies necessary for tho races at the Boys' Institute baths, but, owing to tho growth and increasing popularity of thoso events,'il; was necessary for the promoters to obtain assistance. In the meantime, the Wellington Club had come to the rescue, and were at present providing the prizes, but their funds would not allow them to uo so for more than two months. Aftor considerable discussion it was decided to hold a benefit picture performance at the _Tow.n Hall, all the representatives pledging their clubs to support the movement. An executive was formed to carry out tho scheme. On the motion of Mr. J. P. Maxwell it was resolved that a deputation wait on tho oouncil to ask that the necessary repairs now required at the Te Aro • Baths to the outside wall be carried out temporarily, and that the same bath be extended a further 75 yards northward to allow the ladies' bath, which is quite inadequate for present needs,. t/o bo increased by 25 yards and tho men's a further 50 yards.
