THE GREY SEAT
MUST BECOME VACANT. There is no doubt now that the Grey seat must become vacant in a few, days. The session is not .yet legally over, because nominally Parliament lias been adjourned until Monday next, but before that date- (he prorogation notice will bo published. The session '\ill therefore end on Monday next finally, and then it will be certain that Mr. Webb lias bran absent from his placo in the House without leave for a full session of Parliament. The initiative in the matter rests with the Speaker cf the House, and it may be presumed that Mr. Speaker will issue the proper instructions io the officers of the House to declare the scat vacant, and to take steps to have another election. Several suggestions have been made as to who the Labour people may choose in place of Mr. Webb. It may yd; hi that they will persist with Mr. Webb, for there is nothing in the law to prevent a wan from Wing n candidate for ft sent in Parliament oven if he should at the time be in prison. M.] - . Semple is another man who has been'-suggested, but Mr. Semplo states rhat ho is not anxious to enter politics. Another suggestion is Mr. IT. Holland.
