Wβ reconquered Es Salt after ■ a. battle, and advauced on the Es SaltJoricho Road. Our artillery fire and ; cavalry charges forced tho enemy rein- '; forcemonts to fly in disorder, and. we ; persistently pursued the enemy and ; reached tho Jordan. The English still . , occupy a position in tho hills east of ! the ri'vor, but they left many dead and | wounded on tho road." Tho "War Office comments:—"The , Turkish version is exaggerated anddis- ; torted. Our operations east of the Jordan were in the nature of a success- ! fill raid, nftor which we withdrew. We inflicted considerable losses and took 700 prisoners. General AUenby's only j indication of an energetic Turkish, pursuit was on April 1, when. a. small body \ attacking our rearguard was beaten : off."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asen.-Reuter.
