The Salvation Army, assisted by the Carterton Patriotic Association, held an "Our Flag Day" in Carterton on Saturday, when by the means of goods stalls, tea-rooms, concerts, etc., a considerable sum of money was realised towards the special appeal for £50,000. A stock drive in connection with the same object was held the previous day. A stable containing four tons of hay, belonging to Mr. Herrick, Brooklyn Road, Carterton, was completely destroyed by fire on Friday night. J. be origin of the fire is a mystery. Mr. ./. F. French, of Carrnigton, Belvedere, has disposed of his property there. . . ..,'■ A special Teport in connection -with the movement to erect an up-to-date Town Hall for the borough of Urterton is to come before the council at its next meeting. The necessity of a lown Hall has been all -the more emphasised of late through the destruction of tlie Victoria Hall in the recent fire. Several rinks of bowlers from the Carterton Club are to visit Palmerston North at Easter to take part in a tournament thero. _ ■ , In the Supremo Court yesterday, Annabolla Anne Eastgate, of Wanganui, applied for divorce against Alesmidor Eastgate, now in Samoa, on the grounds of cruelty and desertion. A decree nisi was granted.
