Club Fete. ■ On Saturday nftornnou a fete organised by the .Spinsters' 'Club in aid of tbo V-.M.C.A. Trench Comforts Fund •niid the Red Cross was.hold at the residence of Mrs. lsaacs's, at Eoua Bay, Many people were- (resent, chiefly residents of tiio bay, and the Cause benefited to a vul'y satistatitory degree as a result of tho club's effort, .Stalls had been placed on the verandah and about tho grounds, and at these all sorts of produce, fancy work, pickles and jam, flowers, sweets, eta., were sold, while Underneath an awning erected ih ike garden was served afternoon tea. Of much interest was the treasure hunt, Nvhioh had been extremely well arranged by Sir. Kennedy, while "Grandlnariia," with her innumerable pockets proved absolutely irresistible to. the . children who were present, and who, on tho payment of a small charge, bad the right of dipping into a pocket and withdrawing a prize. A very enjoyable concert programme hiid been arranged. by Miss Driscoll, and ■ contributing to it were Mr. Lestrup, and Miss Driscoll, who sang, Miss Anderson, who played a violin solo, and Miss Simpson and Miss Chudley, who played pianoforte solos. A brief speech was made by Mr. Kersley, on behalf of tho Y.M.C.A., in which he thanked the Spinsters' Club very sincerely for their effort and said that they need have no .doubt but that tho moneys whicb were received for the purpose of supplying comforts for soldiers would be spent upon that object and that.alone. He also referred to tho admirable work of the Bed Gross. In charge of the stalk were the following:—Produce, Miss Mellor and Miss Lyons; oickles and jam, Miss M. Isaacs and" Miss Allman ; sweets, Miss M. Myers, Miss A. Newton and Miss Scott; fancy stall, Miss E. Myers, Miss Lv Walker, and Miss E. Cattell; enkes, Mrs. Stevenson and Misses Pegg, Leicester, and Poynder; flowers, Miss L. Levi and Miss Simpson; "Grandmama," Miss D. Isaacs, assisted by Miss Chudley; afternoon tea, Miss Isaacs and Miss Levi, assisted by Misses Barker, Burton, O'Sullivan, Young, Nelson, Serle, and Alexander. Mrs. Samuel and Miss Walker foretold the future to many anxious inquirers, and Miss Rothchild and Miss M. Scott were ni charge of several guessing competitions. Tho club is very grateful to Mr. Kennedy and to Messrs. Hynms, Batten and Kinvig for their assistance. Altogether it is. anticipated that fully £40 will result from the fete.

Mrs. and. Miss Hosking are spending a few days at Plinuncrton on their return journey to tho Wairarapa from a visit to Egmont.

Mrs. Cockburn Hood (Masterton) is staying at Seatoun.-

Mrs. Webster (Melbourne) is visiting Wellington, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Grady Young, at Karori.

Mrs. lloper, DoJton Street, has returned from a visit to Titalli Bay.

Mr. and Mrs. Hope Gibbons (Wanganui) arc visiting Christchurch.

The Misses Butler have returned to Wellington from a visit to Mount Cook.

Mr. and Mrs. Lees and their son, Lieutenant W. B. M. Lees, are at present visiting Christchurch.

Mrs. Sheldon and Mrs. Paisley, of Seatoun, will bo in charge of the Red Cross Shop, Woodward Street, on Wednesday, and will have a good supply of home-made cakes, sweets, etc.

Tho annual meeting of the Wellington College Old Girls' Association was hold on Friday night. The retiring secretary, Miss Martin, read the report for 1917, which showed that every social effort during the year had been given for patriotic purposes. Miss ■Wilson read the report of tho Literary Club. Tho business of the meeting was to elect officers for this year, and the following is the result:—President, Mrs. Dawson; secretary, Miss. Willcocks; treasurer. Miss Moncrieff; committee, Misses Martin, Wilson, Sutherland, Pope, Salmon, Poutawera, M'Caw, Forsyth, and Grant. A short programme was contributed by Misses Fairia, Martin, Sutherland, Pope, Clark, and Greening.

Mr.' and Mrs. Sunderland (Hawke's Bay) arc visiting Christchurch.

The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Arnold, wife of Mr. Edwin Arnold, J.P. The lato Mrs. Arnold was 74 years of age. She was a native of Rattersca (London , ), and came to New Zealand with her husband in 1877 in a barque called the Andrew Rpid, Mrs. Arnold ..being one of only two ladies ineluded'in the twenty-nine passengers which travelled by tho vessel. After arriving here, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold fettled in Maslerton, but after livinc; tlioro for seven years, came to Wellington, where they have resided evor •siuco. The Wairarapa Aimc Chib was the scene of another of the series of pleasant danco fixtures for soldiers and their friends on Friday night. Music was provided by the Military Bund, ' :wd Meedaniea Dowson, Oliver, and Wiokpns and Misses Toognod and Bish played extras. Mr. V. Brabant was M.C.
