THE WAR OUTLOOK

PRIME MINISTER'S VIEWS STIMULUS~fo~GREATER EFFORT The Prime Minister, when seen last evening, stated thiit he had nothing to add to the news available through the Prosn agencies and the High Commissioner concerning the German offensive. Mr. Masst'.y, however, said that thoughft was always disappointing to learn of any loss of ground on the 'Went front, the situation had to be viewed as. a whole, and the cost to the enemy taken into account. What might seem to be a reverse to-dny might appear in a very different light when seen-.in its true perspective, and for this we must await Ifuller information and futuro developments. Wo have the satisfaction, Mr. Massey added, of knowing that our troops behaved magnificently, and made the enemy pay dearly for every foot of ground ho gained. We have much to be thankful for. Tho spirit of our soldiers is unbroken, the supremacy of our Navy is not seriously challenged, and the patriotism of the liugo majority of British citizens is undoubted? The severest tests that we hayo yet experienced are now being applied to our courage, loyalty, and endurance, but with the help of the Lord of Hosts we shall stand , each test successfully, and Jiritain and Britain's Allies will win tnrough. The days immediately ahead will be anxious days for all. Our hearts and thoughts are naturally with our brave soldiers who are fighting for us and to preserve civilisation. May their example stimulate British citizens in every part of the Empire to greater efforts than they have so far been called upon to make, but in the meantime, whether as soldiers or civilians our duty is clear—it is to trust in the God of our fathers, and stand fast for tho right. Wo are fighting for the right, and right in the end must prevail, ■ .
