ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Presa Association. Te Kuiti, March 2. William M. Nash, 44 years of ago, who was discharged as a soldier from Trenthani on February 13,' and who has since'been working at Putaruru, was a first-class passenger from Frankton to Wellington. He attempted to board the train at Te Kuiti last evening, missed hit footing, and fell. _ The tram passed over him, and he died almost immediately, as the result of his injur? ies. Ho was a native of Sydney. (By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.) An eye-witness states that Nash had left the carriage at Te Kuiti and made no attempt to reboard. tho train until it commenced its journey. He attempted to get on the carriage reserved ior ladies, which is located right in the contre of ihs train,'* but as there is only one entrance platform on these carriages, which are the old dining-cars, he slipped into .-pace. His plight was witnessed by a station employee, who caught hold of the man, but could not held,him, being iu danger also of getting dragged under the train. The express was instantly stopped, but by this time it had passed over the unfortunate man, killing him instantly. .. James Darby, of 25 Owen Street, while rounding a corner from the old Hospital Road on a motor-cycle, collide! with- a motor-lorry, and sustained a fracture of the left arm. _ _ While working on an electric light pole in Hunter Street oh Saturday morning, Patrick Malone,. who lives at 159 Aro Street, touched a live wire, and fell to the ground. He was taken to the Hospital, .where it was found that he had received injuries to the bead, which necessitated a slight operation.
