MILITARY GAINING CONTROL
ORDER RESTORED IN CLARE

London, March 1. Lawlessness continues in the west and south of Ireland. Numerous raids have been made for arms, cattle-driv-ing and tho seizure of laud, but the military now is in control in County Clare. " Civilians are not allowed out after nightfall. A party of moonlighters in Galway fired nine shots at a farmer's house. Similar outrages have been committed elsewhere. Sinn Feiners also publicly burned the American flags.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. LAWLESS Miis INCOIIRT IMPRISONED FOB CONTEMPT. London, March 1. Eight youths, charged at the Sligo Courthouse with participation in an unlawful assembly, refused to remove their hats, began smoking, and sang Irish freedom songs. The Magistrate demanded an apology, and one said he did not pay regard to any representative of the British- Constitution. The Magistrate sentenced them to seven days' imprisonment for contempt of Court. The prisoners thereupon threw themselves on the floor. On the police attempting to remove them, the crowd in the Court became threatening. A detachment of military was_ summoned, and the prisoners were carried out to a lorry and removed to gaol amidst a scene of great excitement.—Reuter. AN IRISH "GENERAL" AIffiESTED. (Rec. March 3, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 1. Michael Brennan, styling himself a general commanding forces in the Irish republic, has been arrested in County Clare.
