GREAT DESTRUCTION OF TONNAGE. New York, March 1. An exhaustive semi-official investiga-. tion reveals the present acute shortage of shipping to bo 7,435,000 tons. Tho total tonnage destroyed since the war began is 11,931,000.—Au5.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SWEDISH VESSELS PLACED AT ALLIES' DISPOSAL. (Rec/ March 3, 5.5 p.m.) ' London, March 2. The "Morning Post's" . Stockholm correspondent says that a tonnage agreement between Sweden and tho Allies has been settled whereby 72,000 tons of Swedish shipping is placed at the Allies' disposal. Sweden is to be permitted to import 64,000 tons of necessaries.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
