The continued good weather has resulted in harvesting operations being 3n full swing, and almost needless to say harvesters are at a premium (says the i "Southland Times"). ' Thrashing mills are getting busy, and will commence, on tho grain this week, so that here, too, there is an opening for many men. A good number of men are also required tor mill work, the flaxmills toeing very busy. A few labourers can ibe placed on general farm work, though the inquiry for such _is not (brisk. General labouring lines in town are also quiet, but thero are a few men required. Freezing works have started on a small scale, but there is not much doing at present. Some good turnip crops are to be teeen between Gore and Clinton, but the country urgently needs a good South Otago's harvest is late this year As yet more of tho area to be seen from the train is standing than cut-much of it is just colouring. Crops do not appear to be heavy, but the stuff is well headed withal.
