PICNIC AT DAY'S BAY
Some 200 employees, together with their families, took part in the Charles J. Ward ]3oot and Shoe Manufacturing Company's picnic at Day's Bay on Saturday. The head of the Jinn (Mr. Charles ,J. Ward) was present during the afternoon. The prize-list is as under:—Shop handicap: W. Mills, 1; AV. Ward, 2. Championship, 100 yds.: W. Ward, 1 • H. Gray, 2; H. Hanson, 3. Apprentices', handicap: H. Hanson, 1; S. Piper, ,2. Egg and spoon race: Miss Leslie, 1; Mrs. W. Webster, 2. Thread-the-needle: Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Ward, 1. Ladies' handicap: Miss D. Steer,. 1; Miss R. Simmonds, 2. Three-legged race (meli): Goo. and Chas. AVard, 1. Egg and spoon race (men): AV. Marshall, 1. AVheelbafrow race: Holt and Hundley, 1. Hit-the-wicket: Mrs, G. Pickett, 1. Boys' race: C. Davies, 1; AV. Marshall, 2. Diving: AV. AVard, 1; J. Lynn and C. P. AVard, 2. The children alsoliad numerous races and prizes.
