WELLINGTON JUNIOR CHALLENGE ' SHIELD. The Wellington City and Suburban Itiflo Clubs' Union completed their aninuil shield matches on Saturday at "Broadway". Range, Miramar, at ranges 300, 500, MO yartla, tho mutch being for tho junior shield. The weather conditions were ideal, tho Miramar winds being on 1 their best behaviour. Great, interest was taken in this match. Each team was well supported. and, assisted by their senior allots and ably coached, Karori by. Sergeant I'. Ohing. Suburbs Sergeant 0. Gny, l'etone A. fi. Ballinger, and Old Navals President Rabo and It. Sneddon. Tho best, shoot, for tho day was by J. Dayman, Karori, with 96. The most creditable score for the day was undoubtedly made by veteran W. H. Cox, Karori, who piled on 32, 31, 27—grand total, 90.
'Starting at 300 yards, tho scores weroKavorl 231, Suburbs 230, Petone/ 205, and Old Navals 202 (Karori one point ahead of Suburbs). Going back. to 600 yards tho Karori team still forged ahead, and were now 12 points ahead of tho next, team, Suburbs, their averiigo at this range being 31 points per man—Karori 479, Suburbs 467, .Petotic 430, Old Navals 419. At tho ooncluding range,'6oo. yards, Karori continued going strong. Dayman was the last man down, and with 30 to his credit ftt.6oo yards he brought his club's grand total up to 701, and the average per man to 87.5, Karori thus winning' the shield from the Suburbs by 27 points. At ti!e conclusion of the rnatoh congratulatory speeches wero made. ..President J. Babe handled the match at range officer.
