LABOUR DEPARTMENT PICNIC
j. . . __Q.. The annual picnic of tbe Labour Department staff was held at Day's Bay on Thursday,- and proved a most enjoyable outing. There was a large attendance. Apologies for absence were received from the Minister of Labour (the Right Hon. AV. F- Massey), the Secretary of Labour (Mr. F.» W. Rowley), and a number of ex-officers of tbe Department. The results of tbe sports lield during the day were as follow:— Ladies' Race: Miss Newton, 1; Miss Shaw, 2; Miss I. Maxwell, 3. Departmental Ladies' Race: Miss Salmon and Miss Garten (dead heat). Men's Race:' V.gutton, 1;R. T.Bailey, 2. Tot' 1 Race: Hoskin, 1; Fnth, 2. La Swimming Race: Miss Garten. } Swimming Race: P. Weenink, 1; tag, 2. Three-legged Race: Mis? . ton and Mr. Boland.
