THE WEATHER. ' Heavy rain affected the movements of shipping at Wellington and at other ports in Now Zealand yesterday. At Wellington all work on the waterfront was stopped, and only three steamers-the Pa-tc-ona, Kaitoa, and Maori-sailed. Tho Huia left the wharf at 4.50 p.m. for Wanganui and Now Plymouth, but on reaching the Heads she waß struck by heavy Boas, and returned to port at 7.10 p.m. Those vessels which were set down for sailing yesterday aro to get. away to-day if the weather will allow tho working of cargo. Tho Mararoa could not discharge her cargo at Lyttelton s-esterday, and in conscmtcnce will not receive further shipments to-day. Tho Wakatu was also delayed at Lyttelton, and she will now not arrive hero before Monday night from that port via Kaikoura. The Kahu is to clear this port to-day for Flat Point, and is due back on Tuesday. The Kapuni has evidently been pounded by heavy seas, aud had to fight her way from Patea. against a strong head wind, for at 11.30 o'clock last night she had been 24 hours on her way to Wellington, and had then not been sighted at the entrance. She is probably sheltering at Mana or Kapiti Island. The state of the weather at Wanganui was bad, and the Kapiti was held up there. The Anchor Company s Kennedy, from Picton, and Waimea, from Tarakohe, are also The Kennedy is to sail on Monday for Weßthaven, and the Waimea on Tuesday for Nelson and Weßt Coast ports. Included among the steamers which are to sail to-day are tho Himitangi, for Chatham Islands, Putiki. for Nelson. Calm, for Wanganui, and Wairau, for Blenheim. The Canterbury Company's Palm ii due this morning from Lyttelton. An effort will be made to dispatch her to-night for arrived last night from Lyttelton, and if the weather this morning will permit the landing of cargo the, vessel will sail this afternoon for £elson. The Kowhai was to have left Greymouth at midnight last night with coal for Wellington. The Kamo is to leave at noon tn-dav for this port. .... . By the first favourable vind the schooner Huanui will leave Wellington after an enforced stop here of two or three weeks for Lyttelton to unload the remainder of her cargo of timber from Onehunga. A new topmast, foremast, and gaff have been fitted, on tho vessel. The Huanui will from Lyttelton proceed to Onehunga with a load of produce. At the northern port she will bo placed on the slip, for the inspection of her hull, and if it is in a good condition the sale of the vessel tc a Tahitian company will be decided. As the Mana was berthing at the No. i wharf, Lyttelton, on Wednesday night, her stern came in contact with tho wharf, resulting in a few broken stern plates. The wooden parts on the stern were also Bmashcd, but otherwise no serious daniaso was done. Repairs were effected, ami the Mana sailed at her usual time. She is due at Wellington to-morrow from Wanganui and is to sail on Monday for Picton and Wanganui, taking general cargo. At noon to-day the Himitangi is to sail from W"lH'ifftoii for Owenga and Kaingaroa to load sheen and wool for Lyttelton. She will then come on to Wellington, arriving here about the end of the month.
