I Electors Cannot Fight but $£ Are you a Wellington North Elector ? ; If so, have you carefully considered the Issue at stake in the present | Election ? An attempt has been made to confuse that Issue in the hope of diverting votes from the National Government's candidate. If you believe that the National Government has done its best to j further the efforts of New Zealand in the war: ; If you realise that any change at the present critical juncture would lead to a state of confusion and chaos in our political life prejudicial I to the interests of all: '' • j If you object to the insidious attempt that is being made to undermine the National Government by raising false issues, and by introducing ; vote-splitting to kill the chances of the chosen National Government ! candidate: If, as a loyal and patriotic elector, you wish to prevent the name of New Zealand being besmirched by the election of a candidate who I condemns the only means by which your country can play an honour- j able part in the War, and at the same time protect your-interests and those of your fellow-couutrymen : / If you believe in the honourable observance of the compact entered j into by the political leaders of the two great parties in order to avoid 1 internal strife and friction, and to enable the National Government to ; concentrate its whole energies on the. tremendous task of piloting the i country safely through the war period: THEN : i You will loyally and whole-heartedly devote your efforts to securing the election of the official National Government candidate, Mr. J. P. Luke, who has the combined support of both Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward. | This is a test Election. An attempt is being made to split the votes of those who support the National Government. j Do not be led astray by petty issues, but bear in mind the THE GREAT AND ONLY ISSUE is the honourable performance of the task to which 1 New Zealand and the Empire as a matter of self-preservation are committed. j The eyes of New Zealand and of the whole Empire will be on j Wellington North on Polling Day. As the electors of Wellington North vote so will New Zealand be judged. • Every vote for any candidate but . the official National Government candidate, Mr. J. P. Luke, will be a wasted vote, or a vote deliberately ! intended to injure the National Government. j The defeat of the National Government's candidate by the anti-Conscription \ " Red Fed" candidate would be regarded here and abroad as a sign that New Zealand was faltering in the great struggle. Electors of Wellington North it rests with you to maintain the honour of your country.
