Y.W.C.A. NOTES

Tho first general meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Directory for this .year was Held on Thursday afternoon. It was ' reported that sixty-two new members had been enrolled during December .ami January, a remarkable number for the usually quiet month's ol" the.'year. The Educational Committee had met to plan the programme for lectures and classes for the first term. The Religious Work Department reported that the attendance had been maintained with a reourd average for tho summor mouths. Amongst ■ the speakers were the Rev. J. H. Sykes, Mrs. M'Clay, and the Rev H. Beckmghaiti. A series of Bible tableaux had been given, showing events in tho life of St. Paul, with Scripture readings accompanying tho representative groups. A war intercession meeting Had been held every Wednesday afternoon, when the relatives of Y.w.C.A. members and soldiers gonerally were tho subject of remembrance. Twentyseven girls had been in camp at Karaka Bay. Miss Warren, Miss Johnson, and Miss Bertinshaw were the pioneers of the Pathfinders' Group. At the Y.W.C.A. Hostel 179 young women were received as boarders. Or these twelve aro remaining permanently in residence. Numbers of tho girl'residents have been away on holiday, and this has made it possible to receive so many passing strangers. The work of the Luncheon Committee of the Y.W.C.A. will be greatly facilitated in the coming year by tho alteration and improvements that have just been completed, with furn|shings and fittings suited for tho necessary extension. An increasing number of girls are making use of the lunch and rest-rooms- , Votes of sympathy were passed by the members of the. Board of Directorsof the Y.W.C.A. with the relatives of the late Mr. Balcombe Brown and Mr. A. P. Webster. These gentlemen had both been closely identified with the Young Women's Christian Association as Advisory Board members. To-morrow afternoon, at 4.10 o clock, Mr Dimant, of Melbourne, will speak at the Y.W.C.A. service. All girls and young women,->" especially strangers to Wellington, will be welcome. An excellent programme has been arranged for tho social at the \.\\.C.A. to-uMvt, when soldiers will be, welcome to take part in tho games, and to enjoy the musical part of the programme.
