THE NEXT LOAN
TEN MILLIONS IN MARCH £28,000,000 THEN EXHAUSTED Sir Joseph Ward stated on Saturday, eays the Christclnirch "Star," that tho new war loan would be placed ou the market some time next month. He. said that he was not sure what the Biim would bo, but it would he under £10,000,0(10. probably a few thousands over £9,000,000. The actual sum dopended to a large extent on the money coming in from the war certificates issued from tho Post Offices. They had come in fairly freely for some time. Tlie more that came in the less would be the loan.
Sir Joseph Ward explained that this loan would be the balance of the authorities from the old loan of £28,000,000. When the new loan was raised, it would, complete the authorities given by Parliament for war loans. He said that if the war continued until the end of July next, the sum would not bo sufficient to meet the Dominion's requirements beyond that date. Jf further loans were required, Parliamentary authority would be asked to raise them. The requirements fluctuated with the extent of the actual fighting of our men at tho front. Tlie financial demands made by the war' in the Dominion for men, equipment, and nther items were definite, but the de : mands on account of engagements and battles were uncertain, absolutely unknown, in faet. In repk to a-.onestior, Sir Joseph Ward said thai- the new loan would he fully advertised in the newspapers as soon as details were fixed.
