ACCIDENT AT TEPID BATHS

A boy, Thomas Dcmpscy, fourteen years of age, a member of the Presbyterian Boys' Home, Merivale, was drowned at the Christeliurch Tepid Baths at 3.15 on Saturday afternoon. DprvMSi'cl was swimming at the baths, and was seen to jump off the springboard twice. A boy named Mayimrd pviiled him out both times, as it appears deceased could not swim. A few minutes later he was seen by a boy rtnmed Cecil Reese struggling in the water, and ..finally sinking. Reese gave the- alarm, and a young man named Oliver Davison dived in and recovered the body, which was lying face downwarden 7ft. 6iu. .of water at the deep end, just under the chute. Dr. AYhetter was immediately communicated with, and artificial inspiration was tried, but without avail.
