THE KING'S SPEECH

WAR AND HOME PROBLEMS

(Rec. February 7, 10.20 p.m.)

London, February 6. _ The King's Speech proroguing Parliament stated that America's entry into the war, followed by other countries, had practically united the whole of the civilised world in a league of nations against unscrupulous aggression. Russia's negotiations with the enemy proved that the enemy's ambitions, which had provoked this unhappy war, were unabated. The British naval and military forces ha 3 displayed in all the theatres of the war noble courage, high constancy, and fixed determination. The Dominion forces had borne their full share in the toil and glory of tlio day. The settlement by agreement of the difficult question of electoral reform leads me to hope that a solution of the Irish question may be possible, in spite of the complexities which the Convention is earnestly considering."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
