The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., report that at their Waikanae yards on Thursday they offered, a fair entry of both sheep and cattle, and report a good clearance at the following prices:—Medium fat ewes, 255.; f.f.m. ewes (low condition), 175.; cull ewes, 10s. to 10s. 7d.; small lambs, 6s. 6d. to Bs. 10d.; light fat bullocks, £15 12s. 6d.; f.c. bullocks, £15; two and a, half-year steers, £11 75.; weaner pigs, lis. 6d. to 16s. Competition was good throughout, and the market generally showed improvement. Quotations Fat owes, 28s. 7d.; f. and f. wethers, 295. Sd.; two-tootli wethers, small, 235. 111.; mixed weaners, £2 lis.; store cows, £3 10s., £4 103., £5, £5 7s. 6d„ £6, and £6 10s.; forward cows, £7 65., £7 17s. 6d„ £8 10s., £9 As., £9 12s. fid.;"fat cows. £10 ss„ £10 17s. 6d., £11 12s. 6d„ £11 145., and £12 2s. 6d.; aged cows with calves. £6; eighteen-month* bulls, £3, £3 10s„ £4 155.; potter bullß, £7, £9 7s, 6d. Messrs. Dalgety and Co,, Ltd., Palmerston North, report having held their fortnightly sale at Taihane on Wednesday, when a fair yarding of both sheep and cattle came forward. There was a good attendance of buyers, and all lines of sheep met with ready sale. The demand for cattle was somewhat dull, nnd prices were inclined to be cosier. Sheep—Twotooth ewes, 225. 6d. to 285.; four and sixtooth ewes, 295. 9(1.; four-tooth wethers, 31s. 7d. to 335.; two-tooth wethers, 26b. t|d. to 295. 9d.; woolly lambs, 14s. 3d..; | Kliorn mixed lambs, 155,; cull lambs, 7s. Macpherson, Government Fields Supervisor, states that the majority of tho wheat crops 011 tho Ashburton experimental area have now been cut and are in stook. Early in tho season the small birds commenced to take heavy toll of tho grain, but a boy with a gun was employed daily, and this had the desired effect of frightening the birds.
