DR. THACKER'S MEETING AT NAPIER

RUMOURS OF COUKrS-MARTIAL. In his reply acknowledging receipt of Mr. J. Vigor Brown M.l'.'s telegram conveying to him the resolutions passed at Dr. Tliacker's meeting in Napier on Tuesday night Mr. Massey stated: —"Contents noted." It appears, says the Napier "Daily Telegraph," that in another quarter the meeting has also been "noted." Dr. Thacker holds the rank of captain in the Reserve of Officers of the New Zealand Medical Corps, and in criticising officers of the Defence Department as he did on Tuesday evening, lie, it is alleged, committed a breach of military law, in view of his position in the Reserve of Officers. It is understood that the matter has been brought to the notice of the Defence Department, and that a court-martial may be the result. Another breach of the military regulations is said to have been committed on Tuesday night, In this case an officer of field rank who was a visitor to Napier attended the meeting and remained throughout. For a military officer to listen to his superiors being trounced in sucli a vigorous style as the New iZealai:d Defence Department heads were at the Municipal "Theatre on Tuesday night is said to be looked npon as a very serious offence, and it is believed that a court-martial may follow in this case, too.
