SCHOONER DISABLED
HOANUI TOWED TO WELLINGTON
Disabled, and in tow of tho Wairau, the auxiliary schooner Iluanui arrived •in tho stream at Wellington at 6.00 a.m. yesterday from Port Underwood, where she had an enforced stay of a week, owing to an accident to her foremast. The Iluanui, without auxiliary po* er, was in charge of Captain 0. Anderson, and was bound from Oneliunga to JJunedin with a cargo of timber. On fasturday night, January 19, when she was battling against a southerly gale, tne foremast snapped at » place about twenty-five feet above I ' lC ! vessel was eight miles off .' between Capo Campbell and the Nairn! bar, at tho time the accident happened, nncl made for Fort -Underwood for shelter. The Wairau took her ill toiv at !) p.m. on Saturday,_ and experienced <;ood weather coming across the Strait, arriving in port alter a ten-hour trip. . ~ , . Although tho Huanui; winch is a wooden vessel of about /0 tons register, lias an cngino for making auxiliary power, the batteries were removed before she left Oneliunga as ail engineer could not be obtained. This morning she will be berthed at No. 11 Queen's Wharf /or repairs. If a new mast can bo had at Wellington tho Huninii should bo ready for sea m about a week's time, but should one have to bo brought from Auckland sfle will bo hero two or threo weeks.
