Sydney Straot Soldiers' Club Dance. The dance for soldiers which was held in the Sydney Street Soldiers' Club lust evening, tho first for this year of these weekly events, was lp-vgely attended, and was thoroughly successful in overv way. The Hutt ladies were in charge of the tea.room, .and Mrs. C. Earle carried out the arrangements in oonnoction with the dance. Madame Foley provided the music, and in spite of the heat the soldiers' enthusiasm for dancing appeared to be as keen as ever. Mrs. Massey, president of the ohib, and Miss Massey, were present for part of the evening. Prisoners in Germany. The following lotter, dated December 19, has been written by the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Sir Thomas. Mackenzie), to relatives of men interned in Germany;—"We shall all have very much in our thoughts this coming Christmas those of our men who have unfortunately fallen into tho hands of our enemies; and they in their turn will bo thinking longingly of all those near and dear to them iri dear old New Zealand, and wondering when the day of their release will be ajfc hand, and liopir.fi that it may not be long_ delayed. _ [ need not assure you again that I will do all in my power to assist each and every one of our poor fellows as long as ho remains a prisoner of war. I know you will be glad to hear that substantial Christmas parcels have been sent to all in the name of the people of New Zealand. The oost of these parcels has been defrayed from New Zealand patriotic funds in my hands, and I hopo they will reacTi their destinations safely, and bring with them some measure of good cheer. I have in course of proparation h sftiorb pamphlet which has been written mainly for tho benefit of relatives of our New Zealand prisoners of war, and copies will he forwarded as soon ae possible. I trust it may bo interesting, and will prove useful for the purposes of reference."
Mr. L. H. B. Wilson and the Misses Wilson leave on Saturday to stay at Day's Bay, where they have taken a. cottage for two or three weeks.
Mrs. 0. Palmer, who has been visiting Christ-church, has left en route for her home in New Plymouth.
Miss M. ,G. D. Turner, at present assistant-mistress on the staff of th.e Waitald Girls' High School, has been appointed first aesistant-mistress at the Rangiora High School.
The wedding-of Miss Daisy Warner, eldest daughter of Mr. F. W. Warner, of Liuwood, to Mr. Samuel Brooking, formerly of Lyttelton hut now on transport service abroad, look place in New York on December 26. Miss Fulton (formerly of Christchurch), who has been doing probationer work at Walton-on-Thames Hospital, is now driving a motor ambulance, during the winter months at Home. Mrs. Maurice Turrcll has returned to "Wellington from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Eva Baird, who has been staying in Wellington with friends, returned to Hawke's Bay yesterday. Mrs. Gore is leaving for Martin* borough on Friday to stay with Mrs. Payne. Mrs. J. M'ltae (Masterlon) is at present staying at "Kenilworth." ■ ' Mrs. Seville (Hataitai) has returned from a visit to Sydney.

At St. Mary Abbot's Church, Kensington (London), Lieutenant Montagu Steele, N.Z.E.F., youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Steele, of Auckland, was married to Miss Grace Isabel Hutcheson, youngest daughter of Colonel George Huteheson, M.D., late of I.M.S. The ceremony was performed by the Eev. Canon Steele, rector of' St. Mark's, Toy, and uncle of the bridegroom.
The marriage took place in Christ's Church, Lancaster Gate, London, of Miss. Mavis Reed, elder daughter of Mr. J. 11. Keed, K. 0., and Mrs. Reed, ltemuera, Auckland, and Major F. A. Hellaby, M.C., youngest sou of Mrs. R. Hellaby and the late Mr. Richard Hollaby, of Auckland. Major R. Reed (undo) gave the bride away, nnd Lieutenant J. Hellaby was best man.
• Mr. and Mrs. F. Samuel and Miss Geddis have returned from a visit to the South Island.
Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Tonks, who have been visiting relatives in Taranaki during tho Christmas and New Year time, have returned to Greytown.
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Troutbeek have returned to Napier from a visit to Auckland.
Mrs. Owen Monckton, Waipukurau, is visiting Taupo.
By the recent mail tho Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luko/ hap received from sdldien? oversese several cards and letters acknowledging the receipt of gift parcels sent through the Countess of Liverpool Fund Committee, and also through the Citizens' Gift Fund. The greatest appreciation of the gifts '.vas oppressed by the recipients.
