CARTERTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) • The quarterly returns of tho Carterton Magistrate's Court show that the total sittings wero thirty, of which number the Magistrate presided over three, and the Justices twenty-seven. Thirty-six plaints ware issued, one distress warrant, three judgment summonses, and one warrant of committal. Civil fees paid in stamps' totalled £17 135.: licensing fees paid in stamps, £4 as.; criminal fees paid in stamps, £5; fines paid in stamps, £24 15s. In the criminal division the quarter's returns showed that 59 males and three femalos were apprehended. Sixty of these had connections recorded against them. Seven juveniles wero dealt with, and convictions were entered in each case.
Two rinks from tjie Carterton Bowling Club left for Dunedin on Monday to take part in the Dominion tournament. '■
Private Stan. Viokerstaff,. who will be leaving shortly for the front, was the recipient \of a soldior's wristletwatch from tho Parkvalo settlers, as a token of. esteem. Special intercession*! prayers 'for a speedy peaco were offered up in all the Carterton churches at both morning and evening services on Sunday. Harvesting operations are now in full awing in this district. The unsettled weather of the past few weeks has been against tho work.
