The War Office reports: "The British captures in 1917 were: In the Western theatre, 73,131 prisoners md 631 guns; in Palestine, 17,646 prisoners and 108 guns: in Mesopotamia, 15,944 prisoners and 124 guns; in East Africa, 6728 prisoners and 18 guns; in Salonika, 1095 prisoners—a total of 114,544 prisoners and 781 guns. , "The British losses were: In the Western theatre, approximately, 27,200 prisoners and 166 guns; in Palestine, 610 prisoners; in Mesopotamia, 267 prisoners; in East Africa,, 100 prisoners ; in Salonika, 202 prisoners—a total of 28,379 prisoners and 166 guns."-— Aus.-N.Z. GERMANS CAPTURED LAST YEAR

Washington, January 7.

Tho British Embassy announces that the British and French captured 231,000 Germans and 1560 guns during 1917.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

[A cable message published last week stated that during _ 1917 the British captured 73,000 prisoners, 149 heavy guns, 382 field-guns, 618 trench mortars, and 2639 machiuc-guns on the West front.]
